Christ Church in Columbia, MD Celebrates 200 years
Christ Church, Columbia celebrates the bi-centennial of the commencement of construction of their “Old Brick” church. This special weekend celebration includes events on:
Saturday August 22, a special parish family picnic will be held from 5-8 PM to begin the festivities. At 5:30 Howard County Executive Ken Ulman will be on hand to declare August 22nd – Old Brick Day – A seven member band will perform outdoors…and later, a concert featuring the Summer String orchestra will be held indoors. There is no charge for the event, but there will be a free will offering taken to help defray costs.
Sunday, August 23 the parish will commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of Old Brick with three special services to be held in Old Brick at 8:00am, 9:30am and 11:00am. The services will be Morning Prayer from the 1789 Book of Common Prayer with music and sermon. We have been promised that “a special guest from the past” will preach at each service. Please feel free to attend in period dress. An outdoor reception on the Old Brick patio will follow each service.
“Old Brick” is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest continuously operating church in Howard County and shares in the rich heritage of Christ Church spanning a period approaching 300 years.
