Today was one of those days when I just about counted down the hours until the kids went to bed. I finally figured out that the crackling in my ears that I’ve had now for, oh, 5 months or so, needs to stop if for no other reason than the fact that the sound is REALLY annoying. On top of that, I have this annoying congestion in my ear – tat sort of goes away with psuedaphed – which I HATE taking because it makes me a little jittery, I can feel my heart palpitate, and my brain feels fuzzy. So it’s pretty safe to say I’m done trying my alternative methods of healing (hot tea, avoiding certain foods, etc.) when I pop the little white pill.
On top of all that crap, I was tired… yesterday was a very fun day filled with lots of activities. It was great, actually. The downside is that we were up later than usual and the kids opted to wake up earlier than normal instead of sleeping in. So mostly, I’ve been tired today.
So, I went to bed early. I read for a bit, then turned the light off before 10. OAO settled in to snooze around 10:15… just in time to snuggle with me and help me drift off to slumber land. Aahhhh… off I go to the land of happy dreams and uninterrupted peace & quiet for hopefully 7ish hours.
And then it happened: the phone rang.
Now, it’s not so irritating that the phone rang after 10 PM, OAO is on-call this week – we both figured it was a work call.
WRONG.
It was Jan from Educational Fontware, Inc. Earlier today I ordered a CD with handwriting fonts so I can make my own little worksheets to help the Princess learn to write. It’s cheaper to make my own the buy all the books. Besides, I can use the fonts to help her write her own stories and stuff. That will be cool.
Anyway, it was only about 7:30 where Jan was calling me from and she wanted to talk to me. Uh, no. I’ll call in the morning to deal with it. Except for one thing. I CAN’T GO BACK TO SLEEP!!!
So I got out of bed and wandered to the computer. First, I decide to call Jan back and thank her for waking me up.
When she answered, I said, “Why are you calling me at 10:30?”
She replied, “I’m so sorry. I was hoping to get your answering machine. We accidentally sent your CD to the state of Missouri, so we aren’t sure if/when it will arrive. I wanted to know if you wanted another one sent out to you.”
I said, in a very irritated tone, “You called me at 10:30 to tell me THAT? Now I’m awake. Did you put the right zip code on the package?”
She said, “Yes. And again, I’m so sorry. I really thought I’d get your answering machine.”
And I said, “If you have the right zip code, it will get here. Can I make a suggestion that you NEVER call anyone at 10:30 hoping to get an answering machine again? ‘Cause now I’m AWAKE.”
She said, remaining as pleasant as she could under the circumstances, “Again, I am truly sorry. I’m leaving tomorrow for a 10 day vacation and won’t be able to correct the problem before I return. How many more times can I apologize? If the CD hasn’t arrived by next week, call us back and we’ll ship out a new one.”
I think I just hung up. I can’t remember if I actually acknowledged that.
And I’m SO calling that place tomorrow to give whomever is in charge a good earful. That was SO wrong!
On the plus side, I got a blog entry out of it.
But damn it – I’M STILL WIDE AWAKE!!!

so what is the crackling from?
