Because I said so

One of the beautiful things about a doctor prescribed rest period is having lots of time to myself to watch fabulous things on TV that I want to watch. My One-and-Only (OAO) and I went to Blockbuster last night to grab a few movies to watch. Ok, one was for us to watch and the other two were to keep me occupied during the days without the kidlets.

Today, after running too many errands (I am a stubborn soul who wants to be done with this healing thing, but my body seems to have a different opinion and needs rest), I came home and plopped on OAO's comfy recliner to watch Because I Said So starring Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore. I picked it because it's about relationships between a mother and her daughters. I wondered what kind of lessons I learn as a mother of a daughter who comes from a long line of very strong, determined, and opinionated of mothers and daughters.

I definitely saw myself on the screen a little bit watching Mandy Moore's character trying to figure out how to live her own life. And I could see much of my big sis in the oldest daughter played by Lauren Graham - very protective, loving, and objective. And I saw some of my mother in Diane Keaton - wanting only the best for her daughter. I could also see some of myself in Diane Keaton's role, as I think any mother of a daughter may. Every mother wants the best for her little girl (and her little boy, yes. But, that is a different relationship and not depicted in the movie).

I highly recommend this movie to all the ladies - especially if you have one or more sisters. Aside from showcasing that motherly love taken to an extreme, it also shows that no matter how old we are and how old our children get, we still get to learn new things every day.

Here's a clip to a video for a song on the sound track called "World Spins Madly On" by The Weepies. I've been watching life move on around me for the last week as I heal from my tonsillectomy. It's been quite an amazing discovery - perhaps worthy of it's own blog post. But for now, let's just say, this song sums up my last week and the movie, well - enough about the movie. And BTW, I need to download me some tracks by The Weepies - they're great!
